Welcome

Welcome to the Athens Chapter of the Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association. Our chapter is located in Southeastern Ohio including Athens and surrounding counties. Our activites include regular gatherings at area farms, a spring co-operative seed order and the sale of Thanksgiving food baskets.

Food Fraud, Pink Margarine, Pure Food: Lessons from 19th Century Food Regulation.

Presented by Kathleen Sullivan, an Associate Professor at Ohio University. She is the author of Constitutional Context: Women and Rights Discourse in 19th-Century America.

A dessert potluck will follow the talk. Please b]ring a snack item to share.

Rich Gardens Organic Farm. Twenty five years of organic faarming on display.

Rich and Ann Tomsu will give us a tour of their farm featuring garlic, new potatoes, salad greens and lots of other veggies. After the tour we will have a potluck supper and business meeting. Please bring your own table service and a dish to share.

Directions: From Athens take new Rt 33 east to Rainbow Lake Rd/Co 89. Turn left onto Rainbow Lake, go to the end, turn right and then take the first left – Co 45. Farm is 1/2 mile on Co 45. carpool from Acenet parking lot – 94 N Columbus Rd Athens – leaving at 4:30.

August 16, Sunday, 5:00 pm

Starline Organics – Athens Chapter’s newest organic farm.

Matt and Angie Starline own and operate this 44 acre certified organic farm since 2005. They raise vegetatables, livestock and this year are growing grains including sorghum to supplement the diets of non-GMO pigs.

We will tour the vegetables, livestock and grain fields. A potluck supper and chapter business meeting will follow the tour.

directions: Take 50 east toward Belpre for 12 miles. Turn right onto TWP 129. Go 1.2 miles, driveway on left. Carpool from Ace Net parking lot – 94 N Columbus Road – at 4:30

Meredith Fox, NE Ohio Farm Link Coordinator, will speak on farmland transition = connecting existing and beginning farmers.
