Commercial Processing Kitchen Open House
Wooster, OH
Saturday, October 8, 2016
12-2 p.m.
Local Roots Market and Café invites those who currently operate, or have considered starting, a food business to visit its Commercial Processing Kitchen for an open house.
Visitors can tour the kitchen and speak with Local Roots kitchen managers. In addition, they can meet current kitchen tenants James Carey, owner of Wootown Bagels, and Josh Sheets, from Ol' Dirty Sheets Hot Sauce. Both businesses were started in Wooster and operate out of the Local Roots kitchen.
The 1,000 square foot commercial processing kitchen was completed in 2014 with funding help from the USDA/Rural Development. The kitchen puts Wooster on the map with a few other cities in Ohio who can boast similar facilities. The kitchen at Local Roots is scaled for small producers and start ups and provides the equipment and licensing to help food entrepreneurs and producers process, preserve, value-add, and store products.
Local Roots Market and Café specializes in local, sustainably grown foods from small Ohio farms. Shoppers can find farmers' market quality produce, pastured meats, eggs, cheeses, baked goods, and unique gifts from over one hundred Ohio farmers and artists at our markets in Wooster and Ashland. The Wooster Café features a variety of dishes made from scratch using seasonal ingredients and offers gluten-free and vegetarian/vegan options.
