Pastured Beef and Conservation Easement Farm Tour

Windsor, OH

Saturday, August 25, 2018
3 p.m.

Marshy Meadows Farm is an all grass farm raising USDA certified grass-fed beef on certified organic pastures. Beef is sold to a local grocery chain. This tour will focus on the challenges of grazing in the Lake Erie snowbelt where the soils are saturated or snow covered five months out of the year (also known as barn time). Following the walking tour will be a discussion of how beginning farmers can use conservation easements to help purchase farm land, with an opportunity to talk with Alex Czayka, Western Reserve Land Conservancy eastern field director. The Ashtabula Local Food Council and the new Ashtabula County Community Harvest Food Hub will also be on hand. The food hub can serve as a good marketing option for smaller and beginning farmers.

From Cleveland/I-271, take Exit 34 for Mayfield Rd./Rte. 322 E. Drive approximately 26 miles into Windsor. At the only traffic light, turn left on Rte. 534 N and immediately bear right at the fork to go north on Noble Rd. The farm is approximately 0.5 miles on the right. From Youngstown/I-80, take Exit 228B. Drive north on Rte. 11 for about 27 miles to Exit 73. Drive west on Rte. 322 for approximately 12 miles. Turn right on Rte. 534 N and immediately bear right at the fork to go north on Noble Rd. The farm is approximately 0.5 miles on the right.
