Granville, OH

The Going Green Store, 909 River Rd., Granville OH

Tuesday, January 29, 2013 7 - 8:30pm

Herbs are so good and so good for you, but -- if you are like us -- so often overlooked. Learn how to get the many benefits of herbs in your diet, with local herb farmer Janell Baran of Blue Owl Garden Emporium. She will bring many herbs for tasting and talk us through the use of dried herbs in all kinds of cooking. A great way to spice up your meals in the middle of winter!  Attendees will go home with new ideas and recipes to try them out.

Janell Baran is co-owner and operator of Blue Owl Garden Emporium herb farm and Blue Owl Hollow tree farm. After growing up on a small dairy farm in Minnesota, she had a 15+ year career in the computer industry; traveled, studied, and worked abroad all over the world; and earned a Master's in International Affairs before returning to farming in 2004. She now lives a busy, dirty, physically exhausting, but very satisfying life on an old mid-1800s farmstead nestled in the hills and hollows of Maryann township. She manages her 130-acre tree farm primarily for biodiversity/conservation and non-timber forest products, and conducts on-farm research involving native mushroom cultivation and the organic control of non-native invasive tree species. She also has a small herb farm that produces culinary and crafting herbs, edible flowers, heirloom fruits and vegetables for sale at local markets.
